Nigerian social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), was arrested on May 2, 2025, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Area 3, Garki, Abuja. According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the arrest followed multiple petitions alleging cyberstalking and related offenses.

VDM's legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, claimed that his client was detained after visiting the bank with his mother to address unauthorized deductions from her account. Adeyanju alleged that GTBank staff locked VDM inside the bank's exit door for over five minutes, facilitating his arrest by EFCC operatives. The incident has sparked public outrage, with many viewing it as a targeted attempt to silence a vocal critic of government and institutional misconduct.

In response to the arrest, the Take It Back Movement condemned the action as "unlawful" and "premeditated," accusing both the EFCC and GTBank of complicity in an abuse of power. The group also reported that VDM's mother, who was present during the arrest, has since gone missing, raising further concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
