Steve Clarke’s Scotland side ended their final warm-up game before Euro 2024 in a 2-2 draw against Finland. Despite taking a two-goal lead, the Scots allowed Finland to fight back and secure a late equaliser.

The match started off with a first half of few chances, with Scotland’s Kieran Tierney making a crucial intervention to deny Finland’s Teemu Pukki in the 10th minute. The deadlock was finally broken in the 54th minute when Arttu Hoskonen of Finland inadvertently turned Andrew Robertson’s centre into his own net, giving Scotland the lead.

Scotland extended their lead four minutes later when Lawrence Shankland powerfully headed home a deep cross from Robertson. However, the game took a turn in the 72nd minute when an unmarked Benjamin Kallman glanced home Oliver Antman’s centre, pulling one back for Finland.

The drama continued as Finland earned a share of the spoils with just five minutes remaining. Kallman calmly sent substitute goalkeeper Craig Gordon the wrong way from 12 yards after Gordon fouled Tomas Galvez. Despite a last-minute attempt by Scotland’s Tommy Conway, which was brilliantly saved by Finland’s Viljami Sinisalo, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

The game was particularly momentous for Gordon, who earned his 75th cap at the age of 41, becoming Scotland’s oldest ever player. His international career now spans the longest duration, having made his debut against Trinidad and Tobago back in 2004.

Despite the draw, Scotland looked in control for most of the match and will be looking to build momentum ahead of their opening Euro 2024 match against host nation Germany in seven days’ time. However, with only one win from their last nine matches, Clarke has his work cut out for him as he aims to guide the Boys in Blue beyond the group stage for the first time.
