In a remarkable act of compassion, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, marked his 63rd birthday by paying over ₦50 million in medical bills for 40 patients across multiple Lagos hospitals.

To mark his 63rd birthday, the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, turned his celebration into an act of service by settling over ₦50 million in medical bills for patients across several Lagos hospitals.

The generous gesture took place on Wednesday, with Rep. Fuad Laguda (Surulere 1 Federal Constituency) representing the Chief of Staff during visits to selected health facilities. Some of the hospitals involved included

  • Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba

  • Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital, Surulere

  • Randle General Hospital, Surulere

  • Gbaja Maternal and Child Care Hospital, Surulere

  • Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja

At each hospital, patients with critical medical conditions, many of whom were unable to afford their treatment, were presented with cheques covering their bills. Amounts ranged from ₦200,000 to ₦5 million, depending on the severity of the cases.

“Leadership is about service, impact, and compassion,” Laguda said during the visit. “What the Chief of Staff is doing today is extending love to the people of Surulere and beyond, especially those in need.”

He disclosed that 40 patients benefited from the intervention and clarified that selection was based on hospital-submitted lists of patients in urgent need, without regard to tribe, religion, or political affiliation.

One of the most touching stories came from Randle General Hospital, where a severely injured, unidentified man brought in unconscious after being attacked by cultists received full medical coverage.

“We’ve been treating him not knowing how the bills would be paid,” said Mr. Mojeed Lateef, Head of Medical Services. “This is a miracle.”

At LUTH, Mr. Samson Dawudu received a ₦5 million cheque and couldn’t hold back his gratitude.

“I did not see this coming. This intervention is life-saving,” he said.

Also on the delegation was former Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Agboola Dabiri, who praised Gbajabiamila’s compassion:

“Instead of throwing a lavish party, he decided to touch lives. He’s a leader with a large heart.”

The initiative is only the latest in a long list of humanitarian gestures credited to Gbajabiamila, who has also been active in the areas of education, youth empowerment, and business development.

This celebration-turned-charity drive has sparked widespread commendation, with many hailing the Chief of Staff as a model of people-first leadership.
