The Lagos State Government has sealed off the popular Lobster Beach Club following a wave of verified complaints and environmental infractions.
In a statement issued via his verified X (Twitter) handle, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed that the closure came after an investigation by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA). The violations included excessive noise, smoking of marijuana, reckless use of fireworks, and even the illegal uprooting of palm trees.
According to Wahab, LASEPA acted after receiving multiple reports from nearby residents who accused the beach club of disturbing the peace and endangering public health.
“The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency received formal complaints from aggrieved neighbors about the activities at Lobster Beach Club and their adverse effects on the surrounding environment,” Wahab said.
Before reopening, the club must now submit relevant environmental permits and proof of designated smoking zones.
