The sister of BBNaija winner Phyna, Ruth Otabor, has tragically passed away days after sustaining severe injuries in an accident involving a Dangote truck. The Dangote Group says it had arranged for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance.

Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna, has died after battling injuries sustained when she was hit by a Dangote Group truck near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. Her death was confirmed by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the Otabor family, with reports indicating she passed away at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Ruth suffered critical injuries in the accident on August 13, leading to the amputation of one of her legs. Her condition remained precarious in the ensuing weeks.

The Dangote Group released an official statement expressing deep sorrow over her passing, noting that since the accident, the company and its insurance partners had been covering all her medical and financial expenses. The statement added that arrangements were in place to fly Ruth to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Unfortunately, she passed away before she was able to travel.

In the statement, Dangote Group reaffirmed its commitment to safety, accountability, and compassion, pledging to enhance its safety systems. The company extended heartfelt condolences to the Otabor family, saying, “May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.”

Earlier, Phyna had publicly urged the Dangote Group to transport her sister abroad for specialist care. According to media reports, initial agreements were reportedly made, but the process faced delays due to additional medical clearance requirements.
