The decision comes in the wake of the recent death of the 86-year-old Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Adewale, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Tension has gripped the Epe community in Lagos State following the suspension of the installation of the new Olu of Epe and the cancellation of Eid-El-Kabir prayers by the Epe Local Government Chairperson, Surah Animashaun.

In an official statement, Animashaun declared that both claimants to the throne , High Chief Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro and High Chief Iskilu Olajide Ikuforiji have been barred from parading themselves as monarchs, citing their actions as potential triggers of unrest in the community.

Alongside this, the LG boss cancelled Eid-El-Kabir celebrations and Jumat prayers in Epe, warning that security risks and public safety concerns necessitated the difficult decision.

“This dual installation is legally null and void. Until further notice, both individuals are suspended pending directives from relevant authorities.”

These decisions have sparked unrest among residents, who view the actions as abrupt and lacking adequate explanation. Community leaders and stakeholders have called for dialogue to address the situation and restore normalcy.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Lagos State Government regarding the developments in Epe. The situation remains tense as residents await further information and resolution.
