Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Kano and Niger States, following two recent tragedies that have shaken the nation.
The first, a devastating road crash, claimed the lives of 22 young Kano athletes returning from the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta. Calling it a “national tragedy,” Governor Aliyu said the loss is not just Kano’s “it is Nigeria’s.”
In a statement shared via his official channels, Governor Aliyu extended his heartfelt condolences to the governments and people of both Kano and Niger states, as well as to the families of the victims.
“We mourn with the families of the young athletes who lost their lives in the tragic accident while returning from the National Sports Festival. Their dedication and passion brought pride to our nation,” he stated.
Regarding the Mokwa floods, which have resulted in over 200 fatalities and displaced thousands, Governor Aliyu emphasized the need for collective action to support the affected communities and prevent future occurrences.
“The scale of destruction in Mokwa is heartbreaking. We must come together to provide relief to the victims and implement measures to mitigate such disasters in the future,” he urged.
Governor Aliyu called on relevant authorities and humanitarian organizations to intensify efforts in providing assistance to those affected by both tragedies.
