Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage has opened up about her parenting approach, describing herself as a “very, very strict mother” while sharing a heartfelt moment with her 10-year-old son, Jamal Balogun.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, the 45-year-old singer, seen lying on a couch spoke candidly about the challenges and emotional weight of motherhood. Reflecting on a recent incident, Tiwa revealed that after yelling at her son the previous night, she was deeply moved to wake up and find him quietly sleeping next to her on the couch.
“Last night, I was reminded of one of the hardest things about being a mom: you still have to discipline your child and be strict, even when it breaks your heart. I’m a very, very strict mother. Everyone knows this,” she said.
Despite the scolding, Jamal’s quiet gesture of seeking comfort touched her deeply.
“I really went off on him,” she admitted. “And this is why he melts my heart so much… I woke up and saw that he had quietly come to sleep next to me. I had slept on the couch, and he still came to lie beside me, my baby. I was shouting earlier… ahhh. Yet he still came close, seeking comfort.”
The moment served as a reminder of the emotional complexities of motherhood—the balance between setting boundaries and offering unconditional love.
“Being a mother is tough. But it’s also the best feeling in the world,” she concluded.
Tiwa Savage’s reflection struck a chord with many parents, especially mothers navigating the fine line between discipline and tenderness. Her story highlights the unspoken bond between parent and child, where even after tears and tension, love quietly bridges the gap.
