Ryan Taylor has addressed the backlash following his comment about DJ Cuppy, insisting Nigerians cannot silence him and defending his right to speak freely.

British boxer Ryan Taylor has responded to backlash from Nigerians following a controversial comment he made about his ex-fiancée, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy.

The controversy began on Father’s Day, when Taylor shared a photo of himself and his daughter on Instagram, expressing his pride in fatherhood and his desire to combat racism by raising mixed-race children.

Things took a turn when a social media user mentioned DJ Cuppy in the comments, suggesting the child bore a resemblance to the Nigerian DJ. In response, Taylor dismissed the comparison and took a jab at Cuppy, saying:

“She wasn’t enough of a woman to even fathom creating such a beautiful creation like mine. Please leave me and don’t come back.”

The remark drew swift and widespread criticism, especially from Nigerians who called out Taylor for publicly disrespecting his ex-partner.

In response to the backlash, Taylor took to social media to defend his actions and express frustration at being targeted, claiming he has every right to speak freely.

“Today is a special day. Nigerians gotta chill out. You come for the mother of my child and think I won’t back it? Don’t come on my page talking sh*t and cry when I speak,” he wrote on his Instagram Story.

“I NEVER signed the contract. I will always say what I want and do what is right for me or my family. I haven’t said sh*t yet. Everyone gotta chill.”

Taylor and DJ Cuppy were previously engaged before their relationship ended in 2023. While the reason for their split was never publicly confirmed, it continues to stir conversation online, particularly when either party makes public remarks hinting at the past.
